Underwater Flashlight

No matter where you cruise you should make sure that you have a dive mask aboard in the event that something gets wrapped around the prop or rudder.  I’ve had seaweed on my prop shaft that was like rope.    It was about a quarter of an inch thick and four feet long.  It cut our forward speed by half.  Recently on a friends boat we had this happen with Sargasso weed and he too had to dive down and clear it.

Which brings me to this underwater flashlight.  I’ve had to dive my prop once on a delivery at night.  In that instance it was a crab pot buoy that got wrapped.  It came off easily.  It was very nice to have an underwater flashlight for the job.

I’ve found that I have also needed this light when installing a prop underwater.  On a cloudy day underneath the boat it’s actually pretty dark.   I had to find the cotter pin hole in the prop shaft.  This flashlight was a big help.

I also attach this flashlight to a throw-able cushion in the cockpit when sailing at night. A small personal strobe light is best but if you do not have an extra one for the throw-able in your cockpit then this flashlight can serve that purpose.

It’s good and bright too.  I use it as my all around “go to” flashlight on the boat.  It’s well made, easy to use, and has a nice wrist line to use when you have your hands full.   It’s only 5” tall so it fits in your pocket to for those late night dinghy rides.
